The Ente Fiera di Trieste (Trieste exhibition centre institution) is one of the oldest in Italy. It was established in 1948 and represented a tangible desire of reconstruction in a city that had been fought for during territorial distributions after World War II. The hope for new economic perspectives found its expression in the International Trade Fair, an on-going presence in the calendar of Trieste exhibitions. Over the years, several more events were added, concerning the main sectors of the territorial economy: yachting, ports and transport, science, flower and plant cultivation, tourism and above all trade mediation, a sector that is central to all trade fair initiatives. A contribution to the success of the Ente Fiera initiatives is provided by the geographical position of Trieste, absolutely relevant from a strategic, political and economic point of view, featuring direct contacts with Eastern European countries and being traditionally open to trades with South-East Asian and African countries
