Friuli Venezia Giulia motorways are managed by the companies Autovie Venete and Autostrade per l’Italia and are connected to the Slovenian network at the border posts of Fernetti (Trieste) and Sant’Andrea (Gorizia). Slovenian motorways are managed by Dars.

The companies involved in managing motorway networks guarantee connections among the greater centres of the cross-border area and supply a real-time updating service on traffic, in order to facilitate the use of alternative routes in case of interruptions.

Traffic centres are modern and equipped, and offer a wide range of services.

Autovie Venete S.p.A. is concessionaire of the A4 Venice-Trieste, A23 Palmanova-Udine South and A28 Portogruaro-Pordenone-Conegliano motorways.

The company, with an overall traffic of more than 35 million vehicles per year, manages the motorways of the licensed network offering customers all the services necessary to make their journey more comfortable.

Autovie Venete has been carrying out studies for the development of the Pan-European Corridor 5 for ten years.

Real-time information on traffic and weather conditions and are available on the website.

 Furthermore, it is possible to calculate tolls for different motorway sections and vehicle categories.

Autostrade per l’Italia SpA is a company of Gruppo Autostrade (ranking first in Europe among concessionaires for the building and management of motorways with tolls and related services) and manages almost 2,900 km of licensed network.

In Friuli Venezia Giulia, it manages the A23 Udine South-Tarvisio-Villach motorway.

Weather conditions, real-time traffic information and an interactive map are available on the website. Furthermore, it is possible to trace routes and calculate tolls for different motorway sections and vehicle categories.

DARS - Družba za avtoceste v Republiki Sloveniji d.d. is a public limited company that organises and manages the construction and maintenance of the Slovenian motorway network, guaranteeing safe, comfortable and fast connections within the Slovenian territory and connecting the Slovenian territory with the European motorway networks.

At the end of 2004, DARS d.d. managed 383 km of motorways, 52 km of fast roads and 126 km of connection roads.

On the website it is possible to trace routes, calculate distances and get information on tolls for different motorway sections and vehicle categories. Moreover, information on works in progress and on programmes of building and improvement can also be viewed.

The Fernetti traffic centre, on the Italian-Slovenian border, is provided with a direct railway connection with the Villa Opicina railway station (which is enabled to Intercontainer traffic) and a motorway connection with the Trieste Port and the Ronchi dei Legionari Airport.

It offers uninterrupted custom services, custom police, vehicle-duty office, phytopatologist, office for health inspections on animal and vegetable products and on food products, 60 forwarding agents, transportation and support services to international traffic, cargo storage facility, bank, exchange office, restaurant, fuel station, car-repair garage, tyre repairer, car washing.

The traffic centre of Gorizia, strategically located on the Italian-Slovenian border, is a service centre for storage of goods and preparation of shipments with a centre of collection and distribution to different carriers.

It is provided with storage facilities for dry goods and refrigerating rooms with different temperatures, workshops, equipped office modules of different dimensions. The Border Station of S. Andrea features a Multiservice and Information Office managed by multilingual personnel, a service for living animals, a customs service, an office for forwarding agents and a telematic junction.

BTC (Blagovno transportni center) Terminal Sežana d.d., the Sežana traffic centre, is located close to the Italian-Slovenian border, to which it is connected by means of a motorway heading to Ljubljana, and close to the Trieste and Koper ports.

It deals with transportation and shipments (with the possibility of sharing a vehicle if its space is not used entirely by a single customer), goods storage (containers and refrigerating rooms with different temperatures), customs services, preparation of goods for distribution.
